Sounds like you need to be more sneaky, Embrace the way of the shadow and focus on stealth,rather than traditional combat.

OP is right, some levels in the beginning are badly designed. Too many enemies in a small area and they are all covering each other's paths, so it's hard to find someone to begin with. Later on the levels got better.

I have found a bug where if I load into a level I was only halfway finished with, it will lock my abilities as well as not let me open the little shrines with the candles.

I think level 2 is a light skill check. If you can't pass it, you're not gonna have a good time anywhere else in the game. Level 2 is pretty easy if you've played stealth games before. And it sounds like you're struggling with patience, or you're not using a mechanic.

The shadows make you harder to see, but NOT INVISIBLE. Especially on hard mode.

First run is very difficult, yeah. I remember i was legit crying on vc while my friend was watching me stream, but he was very encouraging throughout. Until he bought n played the game, and rage quit Multiple times out of sheer frustration.

But once you collect all the scrolls and unlock all the skills, it's honestly a fun game. I have S rank with all the medals (no detections, no kills, and all killed) in the highest difficulty. The DLC however is uhh... It sure is a buggy mess.
