You're right, there are lots of relevant comparisons to make. We listed Zoom, Streamlabs, and Photoshop as references because they are very popular pieces of software that together, like Animaze, touch on video chat, streaming, and content creation for artists.
Internally, our list was much longer and included the companies you mentioned. Here is how we thought about ManyCam and F-Clone.
Most Animaze subscribers will select the Basic Subscription, which costs $19.99 per year, undiscounted. **Only** professionals earning more than $500 per month from Animaze content require the VIP subscription ($99.99/year). Also, don't forget, FaceRig owners will automatically receive discounts on Animaze subscriptions. ManyCam annual subscriptions that, before discounts, range from $39 - $99 per year.
As you mentioned, ManyCam offers 'lifetime' subscription options. The cheapest ManyCam lifetime subscription is $79 - that's equivalent to 4 years of Animaze's Basic subscription. As such, we think our annual subscription price is not only competitive with ManyCam's annual subscription price but its lifetime subscription price as well.
Additionally, unlike ManyCam, Animaze offers a monthly subscription option. We encourage folks that are on the fence to try a month of Animaze for $3.99 and decide if the subscription right for them.
You also mentioned F-Clone. F-Clone is available for $88 before discounts. That's equivalent to roughly 3 or 4 years of Animaze's Basic subscription (also undiscounted). Animaze has dedicated development and customer support teams actively working on Animaze. It's unclear how much active development and support is going on at F-Clone. So, if you don't already prefer the Animaze experience over F-Clone (we do), we are confident that we will surpass the F-Clone experience.
You asked why we are utilizing a subscription model for Animaze. One reason that we selected the subscription model is that it demands that we consistently improve Animaze to earn your continued support (and renewals). To earn your support, we plan to update Animaze with new features and content based on feedback from our users. Additionally, the subscription model also allows us to invest time and resources into updates that might affect a small, but passionate subset of our users (the subscribers). Under a one-time fee structure, it would not be prudent to cater to power in the same manner. Finally, we know that subscriptions can feel like a big commitment, which is why we offer a robust, free version of Animaze. We want our users to evaluate Animaze and make an informed decision before subscribing.
I hope this provides some additional context for your questions!
What happens if I plan on using Animaze comercially, pay $100 then the next day something comes up where I am unable to use the 'sub'. It's happened to me before. (My plans with Facerig and having a Pro license.)
At least Many Cam and even Facerig Pro, even years later those programs are still for there for me to pick back up and use for no extra cost.
I can also use a lot of those software offline. Even Photoshop if I still used and purchased it.
Anyway, appreciate the answers still, even if we are still seeing this from different view points and angles of comparison. Even surpassing the 'experience' of other software is subjective, as much as I love Facerig, it didn't end up being all it could be (Honestly wish I could revert to a pre-retargetted version as I honestly think it used to animate better before then.)
Damn shame been waiting for quite a while for Facerig 2.0 to drop some money on.
The Animaze model just doesn't work for me. I'll still give it a try when it's available to the public and hold my final judgement until then.
