It might be partly steam related, I've seen it before and what seems to help is disable the steam overlay:
Go to the software list in Steam
Rightclick on FaceRig
Properties
Un-check "Enable the Steam Overlay while in-game"

What you now can not do anymore: press shift+tab to use part of the steam interface within FaceRig
See chat messages from Steam directly in FaceRig (you still see the chat-messages outside of FaceRig of course)

Could you try that and report back if that fixed it or not?

Negative reaction, Steam still sees it as open. Overlay disabled did not help.

Facerig process confirmed closed.

We were unable to reproduce this bug on our machines so we're gonna need few more details to figure out what's causing it (might actually be something Steam-related in which case we can't do much, but we have to check:)
