Face Rig through new Linux "steam play"
sadly i have not been able to run face rig through the new steam play option but i am hoping other ppl can get it going cause this would mean a LOT in the world of gaming on twitch with linux. being able to have a cam without showing your true face for all the shy streamers (aka me lol)

Hello, we've taken notice of the new Steam Play that makes possible playing Steam games on Linux; however, it is still in the beta and while we did try to install FaceRig on a virtual machine with Linux, we've yet to make more thorough tests.

At this moment we're working on the next iteration of our technology by building a FaceRig SDK and the final product will be cross-platform, which means it will be possible to integrate it on other OSs.

The external render engine that the current FaceRig was built on was initially supposed to be ported beyond Windows but, sadly, it never happened, that's why FaceRig mobile runs on Unity and that's why the upcoming FaceRig SDK has its own in-house render engine.

More details will be unveiled soon™.

I'm interested to knowing what Facerig has in store for the future. I assume since you mentioned it has its own render engine... this Facerig SDK is not like some sort of a plugin to any existing engine like Unity or Unreal is it?

Add me as interested in Facerig for Linux!

Definitely interested in FaceRig for Linux. I have FaceRig but it's nothing more than a toy at the moment because I can't actually integrate it with my streams. The window is completely black in Steam Play. If you need beta testers for the Linux version (or the new version in general), I'd be happy to help (professional computer programmer and debugger).

Same here, except I work in a devops position supporting builds/programmers. Pretty sure I can beta test effectively as well. Let's see this happen! Not to mention how this might open things up to business-to-business and other licensing opportunities where it can have a chance to compete with more expensive offerings, if it's on a workplace operating system like Linux.

Thank you for considering Linux in your next iterations. I've been looking for a Linux native program in the model of FaceRig + Live2D module (for livestreaming) and though one can, with limited success cobble together a solution using WINE / Proton etc... it may not be truly viable and way more cumbersome than need be.

Releasing whatever software (including SDK) you can as open source and cross platform will be appreciated greatly. The Linux community can certainly benefit from this sort of software with comprehensive features and FaceRig would have the chance to be among the first on the scene!

I was hoping to see someone getting it working in Proton, but native would be much better!

Any updates on this?

Any updates on this?

We're still working on the platform-agnostic SDK (read my post from 29th of August, just above a few posts from this one).

Looking forward to it

I have had some progress with this under proton. Launching the program as you would anything else in steam, I get a splash screen and then a black one with invisible hyperlinks to different DLC advertisements. Clicking launch and then selecting to skip the launcher I get a scene with the Red Fox moving on his own, a black rectangle with the icon of a web cam, and the ability to spin the model on the background using the arrow keys on the keyboard. I have no other functionality otherwise.

Would it help at all If I show you the entire process from attempt to install to both ways of trying to launch the program?

Hi

Necro'ing this one because it was a top result on Google for "facerig + Linux"
Any update on getting it to work via Proton or Wine? :spacehamster:

Hopefully so. I remember when Facerig was nothing more than a kickstarter project and you guys said there would be support for Linux. Seeing this years later after release with still no Linux support makes me feel slighted and lowers my trust. 'Soon' just doesn't hold any water anymore.
