while there is a patch available at moddb for more resolutions, is there another method available with more options. It is called dgVoodoo2:

dgVoodoo2 is a wrapper for older Glide 2/3 and DirectX 1-7/8/9 games to run with DirectX 11/12. It comes with a configuration tool that allows one to set a custom resolution, anti-aliasing and texture filtering options, and more.

The tool and installation instructions can be found at the above website. The short version of it is:

• Download the latest stable version of dgVoodoo2.
  
• Unzip the archive.
  
• Copy dgVoodoo.conf and dgVoodooCpl.exe into the game's folder under Steam, i.e.: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Act of War Direct Action\
  
• Copy the .DLL files in MS\x86\ of the dgVoodoo2 ZIP archive to the game's folder, too.
  
• Run dgVoodooCpl.exe and select your options, such as the resolution, texture filtering and anti-alias quality under the DirectX tab. Do not forget to unselect the dgVoodoo Watermark (it can be used for testing).
  
• Run the game.

With i.e. Nvidia's DLDSR enabled can one choose resolutions larger than the actual display for a cleaner look. Combined with 8x MSAA and 16x AF can one get near perfect results free of aliasing artifacts.

For additional post-processing effects can one install ReShade. It, too, is wrapper that can inject numerous shaders for post-processing effects:

Read all about it at the above website. The short version of it is:

• Download the latest version of ReShade.
  
• Run the ReShade installer executable.
  
• Select ActOfWar.exe in the list of games (or select Browse and search manually for it).
  
• Select "DirectX 10/11/12". Know that the game uses DirectX 9, but dgVoodoo2 translates it to DirectX 11/12, and so you cannot select DirectX 9 here when you combine both wrappers.
  
• Select your post-processing effects, i.e. select them all.
  
• Run the game.
