Is there a way to reset the game, to completely clear MOD effects?
I'm having a problem, where MODS that I've disabled seem to persist. Even if I unsubscribe from some MODS, their effects are still there.

Is there a file I can delete etc., to completely clear the effects of previous MODS? Is my only option to delete and reinstall the entire game?

Thanks for your advice.

How's your "\steamapps\common\XCOM 2\XComGame\Mods" folder ?

Don't seem to have one.

Just to make sure, you've checked in the right place right ? In your steam or steamlibrary folder, not in My Documents.

I'm using Nexus Mod Manager, not the workshop, so it's easy to enable/disable/delete mods, but all your mods should be there, and I doubt removing them would delete the whole directory.

Yes. XComGame doesn't have a 'Mods' folder inside.

I think the workshop puts them somewhere else actually, like steamapps/workshop. But then the mods folders are just numbers, and I don't have any, so I can't tell if it's easy to find anything, and more importantly, if it's safe to delete anything.

Yeah, just tried it. Delete the 268500 folder in steamapps/workshop/content/ and also appworkshop_268500.acf in the workshop folder.

1. Unsubscribe from all mods.

2. Go to Documents/My Games/XCOM 2/ XComGame and delete the config folder. A fresh one with default values will be made the next time the game starts.

3. Depending on how many mods you were using, you may want to verify XCOM 2 on steam.

I just did this yesterday. Worked fine. Most important step is step 2 as most mods just change ini files.

Edit: Thinking about it more, you probably don't have to unsubscribe from everything if you turn it all off on the launcher after step 2 and 3.

Thank you. I'll try your advice.

Does this work? Please advise. I deleted numbered folders in steamapps/workshop too. Is that the way to go for a clean installation.

Many mods are .ini edits applied over the top of the game's files (ie DefaultGameCore.ini, etc. as you'd find in your steam library, is created upon launch of X2 within your documents folder as a clone that is then manipulated instead). Deleting the mods after unsubscribing in your library is well and fine, generally unnecessary as all steam does is leave behind the mod number (6557804 for example), but these ini edits will persist since they're created by the mod every time you load.

tl;dr
after you make changes to your mod setup, documents -> my games -> xcom2 -> xcomgame -> config -> delete everything.

This will make you reset your graphics settings though, of course. Pain in the ass.
