It wasn't there when i visited the habitat so i guess it's not always there but in "BorekPlays" video of HIS visit to the habitat , he was attacked by the Squid and his Seamoth was destroyed.
-I like your idea on the ghost leviathan because that is the only leviathan in the grand reef
-The log only says leviathan so we cannot use that as helpful evidence
-The screech does sound somewhat like a reaper but why would a reaper travel so far into the deep grand reef
-Paul calls it an alien kraken
-Note Paul says it is bigger then a cyclops (Reapers are not as big as a cyclops)
-He says it has tentacles which only the sea dragon has that (Not including the Sea emperor
-The sound never sounded like a sea dragon or ghost leviathan
-The ghost leviathan is the only leviathan native to the grand reef
-Also a theory is that the mercenary injured a reaper brought it back a sea dragon was hunting and followed the blood trail which would explain why a sea dragon could be there
-My conclusion either the devs might have messed the data log up a bit or this is a leviathan that is not in the game
Beside this, storys about gigantic kraken are very common in mythologie. And such animals does, in fact, exist in real-life, too. So it is probably, that the log origins from a time in the developement-process, where a leviathan-sized kraken had been planned for the game, but was dropped later.
P.S. Paul describes Maida stabbing the creature in the neck with a shard of metal. I dare you to show me where the neck is on a crabsquid XD
P.P.S. I don't think that it's possible to penetrate the hide of a sea dragon without mechanical assistance. (I know people have killed them with the knife but just no :P)
Anyway, a Sea Dragon is pretty much the only tentacle beast that's bigger than a cyclops and they're known to attack buildings. Perhaps she killed a baby sea dragon and the 'mom' got angry.
Also, the crabsquids aren't attracted to light, they're attracted to moving things with light. You can put a base on top of the degasi habitat and toss as many flood/spot lights on it as you like and they'll never bother it.
1. Maida brings a Reaper back to the base, presumably bleeding out the entire time.
2. A Sea Dragon Levianthan coming up to hunt due to lack of food, smells the blood of the Reaper and follows.
3. Reaper, still alive, roars, thus the sound we hear. (All on the assumption Degasi Logs #8 and #9 happen simultaneously.)
4. Sea Dragon happens upon that location at the time, and to try and get at not only the Reaper, but also the other creatures it can smell inside the structure, rams the Seabase, destroying it.
5. Maida jumps out to attack the Sea Dragon, but the Reaper gets loose, and she stabs it instead.
6. The Reaper and Maida go down and yadda yadda she ends up at Sector Zero.
7. Sea Dragon thoroughly in pain and smelling the Reaper is gone, bails to the ILZ (or possibly as Paul ominously hints in Log #3, the Sea Dragon goes after him).
Confirmed by the devs
