YouTube is your "best" learning tool here.
Building a Horde Base is more Visual than Textual, so explaining it it a forum is tedious.

The "trick" is not "frustrating" Zeds into Rage Mode (where they destroy everything).
You want them solely focused on Trying to Eat your Face.

Try this video (there are probably hundreds by various creators):

You could look fo tuto or cheese, but

They will focus weak point, look where they attack, reinforce here

Play with door to attrack zombie, or make "weak" defense where you want attrack them, they are "calculator" who try to find the way with the less to destroy to hit you
If you build square, wall left, right and behind get 3 layer, wall in front get 2 layer, and some door to "play" with them, you get more chance to attract them in front.

Don't make big basement if your are alone, or make it with some hole, so zombi don't get blocked behind a wall that you can't see

Reinforce everything, a good wall is 2-3 cube, but you can use other shape, i often only build with bars shape, so i can shoot and see "short" zombie, if you find cube too big you can build or reinforce with plate or other shape like cross or anything else.

Underground building is nice, you build, craft sleep, eat and keep everything precious under the rock and earth, then you fight on the top of that, so you can make just a good little bunker.
Plus garage underground are swag as hell imo, make a ramp, and build garage door on floor, connect it to a camera so that open when you come, even better for gyro

Use turret, the weapon and the "cube" one, even hammer turret is nice, but they are hungry for ammo, but not the hammer one, you can put fire mod, stun or anti rad on this one

Before turret, use electric fence, it's the best stuff to control zombi, i put two of them on the top of the other to be sure, i build close around to protect them with a door to get access, and i build that around my house.
I recommmend to split generator and switch for trap and light and anything else,, you can also use specific light to indicate thats your trap is working, but thats another subject

Just to expand, the real trick is to provide a reliable pathing solution so the zombies stop and fight where the player wants them too. While matching player DPS to zombie HP, is the real goal.

A good reparable fighting position and a couple of repairable electric fences (or a sledge turret), some protection from cop spit, bird protection and a way to dump stacking zombies, are more than enough for most hordes. (Warrior diff, 32 zombie hordes)

Sure there are additional tricks with blocks, heights, crawling, etc. and preventing some "destroy area" mode. But I find even with my 5 block high path, I don't need those much.

Note: I believe the 2.x Zombie AI has "destroy area" built in at times, it is now not just a result of not having a valid path or of falling.

You could try digging a 3 wide, 4 deep trench around your horde base, leaving only one path at your base.

Zeds wont actively jump into a pit (last I knew). If you are going to set up a tall, zed dropping path, I believe 16 blocks high is the minimum needed to not have "destroy everything" kick in.

Zeds are engineering masters, and they know the weakest spot to come thru, even if you cant see it.

You will see bases with lots of ramps/ladders/stairs for pathing online.
