Making dirty water safe to clean is REALLY easy.
Boil water, have a container above your boiling water with water in it for the steam to condense on. Angle it so the water collects and runs off into a new clean container.
Basically the same as a desalination works.
Yes you can, in the forge.
its a post directly from a funpimps lead developer you can see the account here is the link to the actual post if you wanna see it for yourself :

this is not a modded shot. see the version number on the above right.
I just hope the "water for survival" mechanic changes are more than returning a smoothie container to the game...
I said "modded" because the Food / Water bars are not Vanilla, and there is no V 3.0 currently in existence. Thanks for the link though, couldn't find anything on the website, and the OP only showed a screenshot. I don't usually peruse Reddit, so I didn't see Joel's post.

I would not agree that it's a downgrade, removing them and adding the dew collectors was more like 2 steps to the left, removing the jars removed a quick easy source of water, but more importantly than that (water is easy to get no matter what) it removed a fast easy source of glass, so adding them back as they were would simply be a single step to the right, unless they remove dew collectors, then it's two steps to the right. but the fun pimps tend to do that, add, remove, add back, remove again. add back slightly different, revert to original then remove.
Doesnt say if it was found, crafted or came from drinking something from the dew collector.
It looks sus, especially with the stance TFP have taken on jars.
Like I said, will wait til 3.0 is here to believe it or not.
"FYI jars, smells and weapon combine are coming back."
