When it says new item unlocked it means in your codex not in the general store. It unlocks a new entry for the handbook in your menu. It does the same for any new items you obtain like fishing rods, weapons, or food.

But what is the point of unlocking new seeds if they are not available in the game, it doesn't make sense. When I find new food in the garbage it tells what it's made of then I go back to the house and put the recipe together which then adds it to the cooking menu.

Maybe they're seeds you get from the casino? I haven't beilt it yet in my current save for the new update, but assuming it's similar to before there were seeds (mostly for flowers from what I remember) that could only be bought with casino chips.

I've only been to the casino once, played a game then never went back, but I will go check into that to see if some seeds can be bought there with casino chips.

I looked at the casino and saw three types of seeds, only one of them is what I found, the rest that I found and unlocked from garbage cans are not there, so I still don't see what the point is of having seeds in the game you can unlock but can't buy.

Out of curiosity, what were the other types of seeds you didn't find in the casino?

Cucumbers, tea, sugar cane, chinese toon. I know that some of these grow wild but then why are there seeds for them if you can't buy them for planting.

I'm in the second year and on the first year I found a couple of red beans in the garbage can, those grow in spring, when spring came around on my second year they were never available in the store, then I found a bag of them in the garbage can but by that time it was to late in the season to plant them for growing time, and they still didn't show up in the store after I unlocked them.

I also have a little stash of roses in my storage from the first year and now I can't remember how I got them, but I haven't seen them for sale or in the wild either. The seed situation is kind of convoluted, makes zero sense to me.

There are a couple early game things that reward rose seeds, so that's where your small stock probably comes from.

As for the others...could just be they haven't been properly added yet. Wouldn't be the first items to show up in trash cans before they're available in bulk elsewhere.

I'll keep an eye out for them, see if they show up for purchase anywhere in my save, either way.
