New to Dark Souls - Rendering, mods for the game?
What's best?

I'm using so far as I found yesterday. -

DSfix 2.4
DSMfix

Resolution set to 1920 x 1080 on DVI, should I switch to the HDMi port on the monitor for this game?
SSAO set to max.
SSAO using SCAO for the combination of VSSAO and HBAO.
AA set to 4 - ultra.
AA using SMAA.
Framerate at 60 fps, with 60 Hz in the .ini file set. -
The monitor is 144 Hz, can easily do 144 - 450 fps in some games with max settings.

What happend to that d3d9.dll that I see some videos using and pictures in Guides?
Is that something I should be using? Or is that plugin not necessary anymore?

What am I missing?

PC specs. -

AMD Vishera FX 8350 - 8 core CPU at 4 Ghz, 4.2 Ghz Turbo.
Dominator-GT 32 Gigs DDR3 1600 Mhz RAM at $480 dollars.
EVGA Geforce GTX 980 Ti FTW ACX 2.0 at $680 dollars.
Asus VG248QE 3D gaming monitor at $260 dollars, very good price for an amazing monitor.

As you can see, I am looking for graphics mods.

That dll could be a number of things... like sweetfx or pvp watchdog.

Imo, ditch DSMfix and get a controller. DSfix video settings should be fine. Be wary of unlocking fps, which will cause graphical and gameplay bugs. If in doubt, leave it at 30 fps for the intended gameplay effect.

If you're running at 1920x1080 (or above), get hd textures and high-res ui/fonts/icons mods from Nexus: http://www.nexusmods.com/darksouls/mods/top/

That's why I mentioned HDMi, I noticed in the past on Skyrim and other games, that HDMi actually locks the frame rate at 60 fps and 60 Hz as well.
I noticed something odd this year, Alien isolatoin accepted my HDMi and vertical sync within the game at high frame rates.. a bug in the game? Or maybe in Windows 10.

I believe the old testing of HDMi was on Windows 7, and it was an older EVGA Geforce GTX graphics card, when I was testing it on Skyrim and some other games.

Anyways, I had heard about collision detection issues above 60 fps on sites and other bugs from it, keeping it right at 60 fps.
I suppose testing it at 144 fps and up, would be ok if you don't move from your position.
Would probably be silky smooth like all my other games, I'm so used to 144 fps and up, with vertical sync off, since I never use vsync anymore, haven't for years.
And 60 fps looks choppy to my eyes now, have to adjust again.. Argh! why did they have to make it in 30 - 60 fps range.. especially 30.. 60 fps and up was around back in skyrim ffs..

Anyways, wish I could use it above 60, the only real issue I have is when I go to step, instantly notice a screen movement effect that pulls forward instantly, as if it warps forward quickly, same with long hallways such as at the start, seem to go up and down fast when moving the screen up and down, where as the room is smooth and looks fine when turning, if it's close.

30 fps seems to work, but is really choppy to my eyes, ugh!
And looks slow at 30 fps, I mean like slow motion since I'm used to faster..
It looks smooth at 30 fps because of my graphics card in the specs, though very slow.

Will look into the texture mods, I've seen a few videos on youtube, but they don't always lead to current links or they don't have a link at all. It's like people are just boasting/bragging about what they found.. in videos.

d3d9.dll doenst that come with Dsfix?
Else (waht I also recommend) you can use SweetFX to give the DS optic another boost.. -> google there is a site with download + many presets incl. Screenshots so pick one of your liking.
Be careful not to double use AA.

Tipp you can use a higher render resolution as display resolution -> Downscaling for little smoother display.

DVI and HDMI are basically the same just without sound.
DVI can be used up to 2560×1600 and up to 60Hz. (Display resolution obv.)

Already tested 8x SuperSampling, works fine mixing it with the Nvidia Control Panel AA options, but decided to just keep it at 4x ultra from DSfix.
Framerate stays at 60 fps, wants to go to 61 so I'm a little worried about that extra frame and possibly collision issues when bumping into a wall, since what was mentioned about this game and collisions, falling through the floor.

Actually back in Skyrim when I tested HDMi after using DVI, I found that it looked way different, there was a lot more depth to the game, but the frame rates were locked at around 60 fps at that time when using HDMi, DVI was unlocked, and looked clear.. it also turned faster, but didn't have that depth given by HDMi.
HDMi also has some smooth mouse turning because of the 60 fps/60 Hz combo, though it was a slower type of smooth turning, where as DVI turned fast and smooth.
Of course no vertical tearing with vsync off, ever on max settings in any game.
And yes I know it sets itself to 60 Hz for HDMi, as I have 3 ports on the monitor and a button for switching them, but I have them unplugged since I never use more than the DVI port.

I've also heard that DisplayPort doesn't work well with this game.. that's too bad, because that could be an issue for anyone with only a DisplayPort.. if I had upgaded this monitor to G-Sync.. that would have been an issue for me.. forgot what the issue was for the game, but others mentioned in forums to switch from DisplayPort to HDMi and that seemed to fix their issues.

Haven't really ever used HDMi other than for the TV, which it always used.
Always used DVI for the PC and games, especially now, just to get the high frame rates.

I suppose DisplayPort is now the thing for gaming on new games?

With this monitor, the G-Sync once installed.. disables both HDMi and DVI.
It then uses Displayport latest version to work with high resolution 4k DSR - Dynamic Super Resolution, located in the Nvidia Control Panel, on the 24 inch monitor, with high and super smooth frame rates, depending on the graphics card, while set to 144 Hz in windows for the monitor. But I don't have G-Sync installed, this was one of the first prototype monitors to be able to use G-Sync, it was a test version, but it would have been expensive to get the G-Sync mod either for the monitor at once or separate, and I didn't have the money at the time to buy both together, now you can't get G-Sync for this monitor as a kit, it's discontinued from 2014.

Is sweetfx worth using, or necessary with texture mods?
Are there any moments to not use sweetfx?

Nope d3d9.dll doesn't come with DSfix 2.4

There seems to be an extreme graphics mod for 2013, and HD texture pack for 2012.

Anything better and up to date?
Are these 2 separate mods and can they be combined for the ultimate experience?

Also I need to find the latest version of that same modified d3d9.dll, or maybe a "d3d11.dll"?

Need to find out also if the d3d9.dll is something to look for as well.

How about just play the game, even if it's with the default textures at 1920x1080 at 30 or 60 fps? DS1 came out in 2011 and doesn't have uber next-gen graphics we see today. In all honestly, DS1 looks pretty amazing on vanilla settings just because of the immersive gameplay.

What's your point?

I came here asking for the right settings, as what I intend to use for my reasons, not for criticism.
You are out of line.

Put fps to 55, believe me. (In .ini file dsfix)
It's best for stability. Dont do 60hz, will be doomed for sure because of that.

I use SweetFX Cinematic, great looking really!
And few texture packs from Nexus site.

HD Texture Pack,SweetFX and Flora Overhaul are some of the texture mod that makes the game look better. There's no other mod/texture mod that makes the game more graphically appealing iirc than those I already mentioned

Hmm interesting, 55 fps, will have to try that.
Also 60 Hertz? You mean don't use 60 fps?

I will give SweetFX Cinematic a try.
Also what texture packs do you recommend?

Actually playing the game is the ultimate experience. Tweaking with mods is just flavor.

Here are some I found right before I made this thread.
Wasn't sure which to use or what was best, or if there was maybe something more up to date.

HD Texture mod. -
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NUm4hUOS4Dg

Don't know if there were other mods with this. -
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=doWZhYQeBNI

Extreme Graphics Mod? - This is probably Durante's other mod or DSfix.. it leads to his other mod though. I wouldn't know how to use it with DS 1 since there's no profile in it for the game, only for Dark Souls 2 with the other mod he made.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9pnp-LWeD6g

Thought these would be kind of interesting to share, they are old, but don't know what's best.

One veteran said to me to configure game like that, on 55 fps for stability.
Never had any problems so that was good advice I guess.
As this guy mentioned before, HD texture packs, Flora overhaul and some better faces, Anor Londo distant view enchancer, better visible health bars etc.

Best way is to google best dark souls nexus mods, there are list of at least 20.
First 10 minus mouse fix (if you dont use mouse, hope you dont) are good to install.
