My first guess would have to be that your frame rate is too high. For some reason, that causes problem with how some objects in this game interact, and it can show up at different times, in different places, for different people.

That has been a problem in this game for years and the usual fix is to enable V-Sync (which should limit the frame rate to the rate in the game options). There's more about that in the post below:

Another option is to limit the frame rate in some other way. If you happen to have an Nvidia GPU, some have posted instructions recently for limiting the frame rate in the Nvidia drivers. If you search this forum for Nvidia, you should find those pretty easily.
