Do you get any kind of error message?

All I can suggest is a couple of general things.

Have Steam verify the game files.

Make sure that V-Sync is enabled, or your frame rate is otherwise limited. Playing this game without V-Sync (or maybe just with a frame rate over 60, in general) can cause problems, and a couple of people posted that enabling V-Sync seemed to fix a crash.

i am getting the same issue the game plays for about 5 mins then just closes

so update i turned on v-sync and im able to play with no issues however i tabbed out to type this message ironically enough and now suddenly somehow have 90% of the Characters unlocked hahahaha

Glad to hear that the game is working. The characters unlocking like that sounds pretty weird.

yea iv had a look online and cant find anything about it so im gonna have to just restart game and hope it doesnt happen again as i want 100% and have a feeling that bug would mess that up
