Does "projectiles cap" affect dps?

Or is it purely visual? It's not really clear. If 50 is the projectile cap, then does that mean a weapon with high projectiles and a really fast attack speed is doing less damage because only 50 can exist and do damage at a time?

If it is purely visual, and all those projectiles over 50 do exist and are doing damage but simply aren't shown, then would allowing us to hide player projectiles entirely improve performance?

The option effectively destroy projectile (and distribute a part of their damage to other existing projectile)

That's interesting. I'll have to turn up the cap and see if it makes a difference with time to kill on bosses.

Well I just tested and the more I up the projectile cap the more the game lags. I bet if we could hide them it would improve performance slightly from the current minimum of 50. We'll see though how 1.1 is doing performance wise.

What's fascinating is setting it to 200 cap when I have over 50 projectiles on 2 +3 weapons actually tanks my dps vs bosses. I was killing zone 5 boss slowly, but I set the cap down to 50 and my dps immediately jumped.

So, uh, don't change anything, nevermind :D.

That's bizarre; I was having trouble doing the Blood Handed challenge and thought turning up projectiles would help. I'll try doing the reverse and see if that generates more DPS because DPS slowed to a crawl by zone 2. Might just be my build, tho.

Hmm, it might depend on the boss. I just tried vs the zone 6 boss and I took down the first quarter of health in almost the exact same amount of time comparing 50 and 200 projectile cap. Maybe the vampire queen is different because she has a small hitbox and is moving, making your projectiles miss.

Tried again vs zone 6 boss with 400 projectile cap and it was noticeably slow this time. So yea lower is definitely faster. I'm working on a video to showcase this.

Neat...but it doesn't seem that strange. I don't really know the formulas but I'm assuming that defense applies to each shot so one shot for 1M damage would do more than 10 shots at 100k and way more than 100 shots at 10k. So if you have tons of projectiles and then cap them that reconcentrated damage is much spikier, so even if not all the damage from the lost projectiles is reallocated, still makes sense that more gets past defense.

That's a good point. And so I bet defense piercing needs a high projectile cap to be effective.
