I was just facing an opponent on dungeoneering and after they killed Melzar the Mad I only gained one tainted cabbage in my hand (although I had space for all three). This was during chapter 3, but when we reached chapter 5 one of the cards in my hand had disappeared and was replaced with another tainted cabbage (very annoyingly).
