You most likely found that backtrack song. Basically it returns you to the last checkpoint you used, I think that bird was in the hole you couldn't get out of otherwise.

Correct. I thought it was a puzzle, copy the bird song, no ingame clue. I found a guide that pointed out what I had to do, some sort of tutorial/help would have been nice but hey ho. Thanks for the reply. :}

When I played this the first time on Wii U (not the + version), that was actually pretty common mistake. Good that got past it, once thinking you are getting the hang of things the game can put pretty brutal puzzles ahead of you, at times it's not even funny but I absolutely adore the title
