I play skirmish games which is the next step once you have won a story mode it will be unlocked.. they can be hard i have lost before but sometimes not so bad. I have paid money in the poxbox store to get runes for a custom battlegroup / bg so it is easier.. i would find it difficult and sometimes impossible using a set deck like you are stuck with for now. there is something like a 3 day period where you can't trade for these 3 days once you register at poxnora, i think its 3... so you will not be able to trade at poxbox until that expires.
The good thing about skirmish games is that they give you a free core set rune for winning and the up to 100 gold as well. the free rune is for the faction you played for. I have already got two legendary runes from these games worth around $2.50 each in the poxbox shop, plus a number of exotics and other rarity runes.
My advice, well you need a custom battlegroup of your own... register with poxbox, if you have the money trade in a rune at the poxbox store to unlock the poxbox cash shop.. buy some cheap runes which are good and from the same faction... you can read about the runes in the checklist within poxnora to see what you want. the kf faction (elves) are cheap, i think an elven mage costs $0.05 and there are other good runes to be had. What i did was base my custom bg on the k'thir set deck with some changes. Alright some runes are not as cheap i think i paid around $4.50 for an ancestral avenger a seriously powerful champion but it and other runes i bought allowed me to win games vs the ai on normal easily. Other players will hopefully give you advice on a good cheap bg.
You could also see if poxbox has the runes in their normal non cash store that you want, you will have to trade in some runes to get a credit which you can then spend on other runes.. thats if they have them.
More advice do the daily challenges when you have unlocked them, they will give you bonus gold which you can use to purchase runes in the marketplace... but that wont help you getting past the story mode right now.
I suppose POXNORA staff if you are listening i think you need to give players more help getting past the story modes because the set decks just dont cut it for new players.. id find it hard now to win a story mode campaign 1-4 with a set deck...
btw the protectorate story mode of 4 levels seems to be easier than wrath.
people say that k'thir is one of the better set decks.. i would agree but other factions do more damage... Find a deck you like (play some set decks) and play with it till you get better.
I guess you need to save what gold you do get and spend it on packs but without the daily quests it will take a long time.
you may find it difficult to win pvp too without practice.
350 (for playing 2 games with a set full faction battlegroup, ive had problems here maybe because my game didnt last very long and i lost - you dont have to win just play but i got stuck - the counter did not move up from 0/2, i dont know what went wrong.. i played a set deck of a faction and its sometimes difficult to know what set deck is what faction but you can always ask players on.. i have maybe had 6 games that did not register ie the counter did not move)
350 (for playing with a particular class like paladin or druid etc for 2 games.. this usually always works/registers ie the counter goes up.. but with the set decks you will need to ask if any include that class of unit, tho players may. not know without playing a game through you may not know.. you do not have to deploy the champion of the named class just have it in your battlegroup/set of 30 runes)
150 (for a training match (where both players use a set deck) WIN.. if you ask some lower level players they may even agree to give you a win by letting you win if you do the same for them. you can whisper with /tell PLAYERNAME MESSAGE and ask them to que for the training match so its more likely you get each other to play against. i believe the game has to go past turn 20 to register as a win, some say it has to last 5 minutes too but i think i played less and it worked, not certain.. just rush some champions at the shrine and kill it. of course you can try winning without an agreement if you dont want to do this.
350 (just for playing a training match - you can lose and still get the gold)
200 (for completing the daily skirmish part 1 - this is more difficult you may need a custom deck to beat some of these they vary in difficulty + a little bonus maybe - the games vary in difficulty)
200 (for completing the daily skirmish part 2 + i have got maybe a 50 gold bonus before i believe, i just killed the hero with 300 hit points and got a bonus of some sort.. if you can use the terrain to your advantage in these games do first hero i killed i sat on a high point with my ranged and shot down at the hero he could not reach them with his 1-2 range, think i blocked with my ancestral avenger in incorporal form too so he could only be harmed by magic, i used elven mages teleport ability to move away from hero and shoot him on the 2nd part as well as other ranged and of course aa blocking.. i used a elven shade / scout in stealth mode to sit at the font in the middle at a far corner within capture range still so enemy could not spawn units there and the ground forces behind the hero didnt catch up in time.. think i used brambles to slow them a bit too.. usually the daily skirmish is easier and without a hero to kill)
200 (for completing both daily skirmish parts)
50-75 per game (if you do a skirmish game and win - this is normal gold you can get up to 100 for a long game + a little bonus now and then like if both sides lose 10 champions in the game.. i rarely lose a skirmish game with my custom battlegroup)
TOTAL a day you can get... around 1800 gold
*you can also kill 2-3 birds with one stone by playing the same faction as daily challenge states, adding a unit of correct class as the daily states and doing the daily skirmish.. so in 2 games you could potentially hit 3 targets.
What you can buy with that...
2100 Core set pack (of the older runes - 10 runes in a pack)
3510 (Extended set pack - newer runes but not the latest which cannot be bought with gold - this is the pack you want really)
19440 (10 packs of core set runes - 100 runes total, 1st rare guaranteed to be exotic)
31950 (10 packs of extended set runes - 100 runes total, 1st rare guaranteed to be exotic.. this is what im saving for atm)
generally you get a small % chance for a rune to be exotic and small % chance it will be legendary.
the legendary and exotic cards i have got from playing the game have mostly come from free rune after a win in skirmish or training game.
having an avatar helps a lot - these can be purchased with cash or gold in the poxnora market, you buy one for a specific faction.. avatars gain experience for you playing games with that faction, the avatar tokens are not needed as they level quickly anyway. you can even uproot your shrine/avatar and fight with them.. best use tho is to scry and reveal an extra rune each turn at the cost of the shrine/avatars health it loses 7 each scry.
use /tell to initially whisper a player then /r to reply its quicker
By The Way, I find the Crazed Beast Campaign to be one of, if not, the easier one out there. I had no problem beating the 4 missions in the first try with the "Guardians of Sarnghaver" free deck.
Also, don't know if it was already posted here, but a great way of adquiring new runes is by wining a match. Once you win a match you will be award with a random rune from ANY RARITY, even Legendary ones, from the faction( if splint deck then it will roll random for the faction) you used.
This game need a lot of practice. Easy to learn and hard to dominate. My favorite right now..
