So for those lone few souls that might wander in here, unaware of what is going on and not checking the news tab. A seasonal event is going on, and brings along with it one notable deal: The Poxtoberfest Pack. A breakdown of said pack:

• Costs 499 Owlcoins (3.90 Euro or regional equivalent nets you 500 Owlcoins)
  
• 1 Limited Edition 'Poxtoberfest Maiden' (Reskinned Dwarven Beermaiden, Common Champion, decent support)
  
• 1 Limited Edition 'Desert Owl Brew' (Reskinned Blacklabel Brew, Uncommon Equipment, okay in 'Drunk Dwarves' decks)
  
• 10 Platinum Tokens (Gives a Champion 200XP, enough to hit max level of 3, letting you customize its abilities)
  
• 1000 Shards (Crafting material)

The most notable part of this deal, from my point of view, would be the 1000 Shards. Being a game about collecting cards and making your own decks, a la Yu-Gi-Oh or Magic: The Gathering, being able to make your own deck with your own runes(cards) is pretty important.

And while PoxNora does hand out freebie cards of the older variety(which are not explicitly worse than never ones, but might be lacking some fancier abilities), which can be broken down into Shards in order for you to craft specific cards you want, the process can be a bit arduous as a new player will be stuck playing with 'Public Decks'. Pre-Set decks of limited themes that can't be editted in any way whatsoever.

That is where the Poxtoberfest Pack comes in, with its 1000 Shards and 10 Platinum Tokens, it is enough to get a new player started in making their own deck as long as you take some things into account when spending those Shards:

• Common, yellow border, Runes cost 4 or 8 Shards to craft.
  
• Uncommon, red border, Runes cost 8 or 16 Shards to craft.
  
• Rare, blue border, Runes cost 40 or 80 Shards to craft.
  
• Exotic, purple border, Runes cost 250 or 500 Shards to craft.
  
• Legendary, green border, Runes cost 400 or 800 Shards to craft.

Which quite quickly makes it clear that, even with 1000 Shards, Exotics and Legendary runes are straight out, and you'd have to be very sparse with making Rare ones. Depending on which Faction and 'Theme' that interests you, it might be possible to make do with Un/Commons to get a taste of what PoxNora have to offer though, and the Poxtoberfest Maiden is a decent enough support champion if you decide to delve into the Ironfist Stronghold faction(of which she belongs). Particularly if angry, drunken, Dwarves are to your fancy.

And while the player count is pretty small, about 40-150 daily depending on time of day, there are a few grizzled veterans around. Some try to help newcomers out, offering advice or handouts aplenty, while some will do the typical internet thing and just smacktalk for the sake of it. But those latter chumps exist anywhere anyhow.
