Mod issues
Decided to reinstall this game after many years but it just keeps crashing when I try to launch it via the mod launcher despite disabling all the mods. Any ideas how to fix this anyone?

looks like you have "broken" savegame file(s). if you have several of them and want to keep, try to move out from modsave directory one by one or all if you don't need them.

First thing to always try is deleting the local_settings.txt file. The game will make a new one when you launch it. That file gets corrupted easily and causes a lot of weird, esoteric, issues with the game. It's the very first thing everyone should try.

I put this answer in the TL1 forum where you first posted this question, but I'll repeat it here:

Just remembered, its actually T2 that I played. However, game just keeps crashing now, even if i untick all the mods i used. Any ideas on how to fix this anyone?
If you are trying to load old characters, it's possible that they require different mods, or a different mod load order. That can crash the game. Some mods will be bound to characters (I think that's the right term). There is a mod to unbind them. From my files on the topic:

TORCHLIGHT 2 - Unbinding characters created with a mod

hello, im new to torchlight and i saw there are mods aviable. what mods are "must have"? or better play it without one time?

I'm also going to add that the TL2 launcher divides the vanilla Save files from the modded Save files so non-modded characters are separate from modded characters.

This prevents the vanilla game from being changed and is useful for moving character saves over to the modded game.

If you ever suffer from crashing after removing a mod that bound a mod save then deleting the Mod Save folder while the Mod Launcher is on screen, entering game then exiting game - will solve the issue.

The Mod Unbinder (found on the Steam Workshop) may help when deciding to change mods.

I would add that before deleting the modsave folder, you might want to copy/paste it into a different, safe, place.

The alternative to Awkward's suggestion is to unsubscribe to all the mods on the mod list you are using, then remove those mods from your "mods" folder (make a copy of the folder first, if you like). Add one mod and see if you can create a character. Again, this method is not for trying to load old saved characters. It's just in case the game is crashing before you even get to a list of saved characters or a screen asking if you want to make a new character (start a new game).

If that one mod works, then add another mod and do the same. Keep adding mods until you find one that breaks the game, and then you'll want to check that mod's Workshop page and see if anyone else is having issues, and check for when the last update was, etc.
