Soul gem (golem)

I'm playing with only one MOD: Torchlight Essentials. (I think it should be called Vanilla + instead of the one that already is, because it definitely is the Synergies-less vanilla game, with a few enhancements.) I'm at NG+1, in Zeryphresh. I just killed a sand creature, which dropped a "Golem soul gem." I found a sort of altar with an unlit brazier in front of it, labelled "Soul basin." (NOT Tarroch's Tomb.) When I dropped in the gem, the brazier lit, but nothing else happened other than the basin label disappearing. Clicking on all parts of the altar did nothing. What gives?

Either this is the discovery of a bugged clone altar from the original game or is a bug unique to one of the mods that is bundled inside Essentials.

I would also like to report that I have encountered this bug before however I was not using Essentials at the time.

It's therefore possible that this really does occur in the original game or I was using a mod that is also included with Essentials.
