Off the top of my head, for the maximum rewards always lie except at the end of Eugenie's questline and when Polendina asks about marriage (give him a ring instead). Always give characters items when they ask for them. Keep in mind that "truths" aren't always factually correct statements opposed to "lies", but instead more like statements where you act like a cold unfeeling robot instead of an empathetic human who can understand nuance.
1. bad ending - easiest to get ending. Just choose to surrender. Not the exact choice, but it will be obvious when its time. Lies or truth, or any kind of choices dont really matter. Except this one choice at the end.
2. best ending - A lot of humanity or lies. You dont need all. Just enough to trigger like 2-3? changes in your character. Characters will also comment on it and notice. You can also listen to music and do DLC humanity activities... its pretty easy to get enough.
When the time comes, choose give "Give her peace". It has to be right when you are offered. It will be very late game and you will know. The game will make a big deal out of it. You have to be impulsive w this decision. There is no "later".
3. mid ending. You pretend this doesnt exist. Its the best ending, but sadder. You tried to get best ending, but you did not choose "Give her peace" or you did so but lacked humanity.
As for truth and lies, Generally lying is always good. Theres like, maybe one case where truth is good, that girl's questline. But choosing to lie will still give humanity.
and also with addition of dlc there is plenty things to get good ending even having multiple wrong decision.
it all boils down to choice in final champter near end of game after defeating hardest boss.
Well, if it's like Elden Ring, it is possible to backup your saves if the only thing that differentiate two given endings is 1 choice (as opposed as a complete style you need to apply during your playthrough). I believe the two good endings do offer this possibility. The bad one you need to act like a robot throughout, but I might be mistaken.
Ah I see, only a handful of lies opens up the good ending then. I thought it more around 95% of the choices, so then I have way more leeway in my choices, like ending Eugenie's quest with a truth to get her record.
Thanks for the heads-up about Polendina (and every other NPC seeking objects). It will most likely help me avoid failing any NPC's questlines.
Acting like a robot through the whole game will lock you out of good endings (depending on just how much Humanity you have), but you'll never get locked out of the bad ending.
Oh, and incidentally, the system with the titular lies is that every time you lie a (mostly) hidden stat called Humanity goes up. Lies aren't the only way to get humanity though, you also gain it from listening to records (for the first time each playthrough) and by performing a few specific semi-obscure actions in various places, such as using the Pray emote in front of the angel statue just outside of St. Frangelico Abbey. Besides endings, Humanity also affects how powerful a certain special weapon that I'm not going to spoil for you is.
Ah that is good info for my 2nd playthrough. I'll try to only tell the truth then, but it's good to know that whatever I do I can still get the "soulless robot" ending.
Thanks once again for taking a bit of your time on this topic :)
