Difficulty Significantly Nerfed?
I played the game when it originally came out and remember it being quite difficult, with some bosses requring 5+ tries for me. The second to last bost I never managed to beat. I came back to play Overture and decided to start from the beginning since its been so long.

I know they've added difficulty options, but I am playing on Legendary Stalker and the game is super easy. I just reached Chapter 8 and only diead 2 times. Even the Black Rabbit Brotherhood and King of Puppets bosses which I remember beaing a nightmare I completed with ease on my first try. Was the difficulty significantly nerfed overall?

Probably the bigger impact is just you have more experience for this kind of game than the first time you played it, and you eventually remembers even incousciously how to fight those bosses

Apparently during the time they nerfed a bit some bosses that were too strong (like the swamp boss, which was still much hard imo but I'm not saying it should be nerfed more). No idea if there are actual value comparaisons possible but playing it with the patch released in middle of my playthrough the intended difficulty didn't seem any different, the ennemies still died in the same amount of attacks
Obviously can't talk about the bosses but they were difficult enough to me, didn't seem like difficulty changed

if the most amount of tries you took for a boss is only 5, then your some kind of machine. It was always too easy and that boss that made you quit was prob easy. You prob would have beaten it on ur 7th-10th try or somthing.

+ if you beat them once, you beat them. You remember stuff. Replaying a souls game is never the same as playing it for the first time.

never attempted it without taking advantage of the elemental weaknesses (through an adjacent comment to something unrelated, had the weakness shift between stage 1 and 2 spoiled for me, so i was prepared).
on the whole, i think i was only able to beat it on legendary stalker (not a souls player) because elemental weakness beats attack-patterns in this game.

I dunno. It feels like something must have changed. I completed Chapter 9 and still easy. Started the DLC and I am getting completely stomped. Feels like I am beating enemies with a wooden stick even though my weapon is fully upgraded and I'm lvl 80 as they have so much health and elite mobs are destroying me (feels like some have more health than bosses in the original...). Died like 15 times so far.

dlc is scaled like postgame

your weapon choice may have drastically changed your experience and prior experience with the game also makes a huge difference since recall is easier than learning in a void; any other games you’ve played since then could have translatable skills as well

Difficulty Significantly Nerfed?

The game went through multiple difficulty nerfs - both post release and post dlc's release. Just go through patch notes, especially when you encouter terms such as "balanced", "improved", "optimized", "adjusted", etc.

the dlc didn’t change anything about NG / first cycle scaling; only some DLC mooks like the dogs got changed as far as I can tell

The DLC itself no but there was a patch released in same time as the DLC that changed things on the base game like adding difficulty levels, some boss rematch, colorblind options, etc.
Even if you had a save previous to this patch you have to select the difficulty level for it and some people have doubts on if the highest difficulty, which is supposed to be as the game was before the patch, isn't a bit nerfed.

There have also been one or two patches since but those are mostly bugfixes and DLC stuff I believe, no major feature or main game balancing stuff

didn’t notice any differences in the base game with Overture’s LS difficulty setting vs prepatch’s lack of settings myself, but if you wanted to verify it beyond a shadow of doubt, you could cross-compare with older versions

-king of puppets second phase (his long combo attack) has much less range.
-1st encounter black rabbit brotherhood (main boss has less hp)
-door guardian went from boss to a elitemob (you can compare 1 year ago how bossfight looked compared to now)
all this is on stalker difficulty
game is significantly easier

Door Guardian is now actually a joke. Bevor the DLC you needed to Overwhelm him 2-3 times depending on Weapon/NG+ Cycle, now you can kill in 1 and your normal dmg to him is also higher. And thats not just a feeling

there was a patch like 2 years ago with a patch note about the king of puppet's hp being reduced by something like 20-30%.
it was specific to him, wasn't an overall difficulty nerf, just nerfing of certain bosses.

Yes I'm aware they openly nerfed bosses in the past, that's why I ask which time they take as reference to say now it's easier

door guardian did get dumpstered but I don’t like door guardian and found him a pacebreaking snore guardian so I will not mourn him being reworked into a pinata

I didn’t play the game on launch, but did replay from a fresh file when the DLC released and didn’t notice any recent changes with BRB1 / KoP
