perfect guarding isn't really that special for manus either; his hits push and lock you up so much that you don't get a lot out of PGs on him. Just because PGs are a very strong defensive option doesn't mean that there aren't fights - like Manus - that want you dodging through attacks anyway for better punishes. This is a game where you ideally guard, perfect guard, dodge, sprint around, armor through weak attacks - the whole cocktail, not just the flashiest, most showoff options.

I played first with summons on awakened puppet, then without summons, now I'm on normal difficulty
Ng+ 3 is pretty deep in... its just normal to slow down because past ng + 2, P barely gets stronger w level ups and he finds no more new gear and manus is one of the tankiest.
Beating a boss w out parry is ok, ng+ 3 can def run a powerful dodge build no problem. Lots of quartz abilities to support it. I wouldnt say its behind, you beat him and its normal to struggle on high ng runs.
Second you said it was ng+3 so it's understandble to struggle.
I honestly thought manus was pretty easy my first play through. But now his health is ENORMOUS and ya he basically two shots me. I had so much more trouble with the lightning lady and the final boss than manus.
