Gameplay and Design wise Haydee 2 is a downgrade and a disappointment
I believe I'm about half-way through the game and I havent encountered a single (1, UNO, ОДИН, EIN) puzzle. Current gameplay loop is literally walk from room to room, pick up some required for progression items and walk more. In the original game you had to think, in the sequel all you have to do is memorize vents and other objects of interest where you use item X or Y.
There is no jumping.
There is no ledge-shimming.
There is no climbing
Therefore, there is no (clever) verticality in the level and area design. Navigation became exceptionally simplistic.
Yes, may be in terms of basic architecture and layout rooms make more sense, but i dont care. This does not make the game fun by default. H1 layout may be was nonsensical but it was exceptionally fun to explore. I dont care how realistic you wanted current setting to be (because it is real-world or whatever scenario now), "if it is not fun then why bother"?
Environment has too much distracting clutter.
After few explosive death your movement literally becomes "i'm a slow fat turtle and I'm gonna have FUN LOOKING AN EVERY SINGLE PIXEL FOR 10 HOURS STRAIGHT BECAUSE MINE CAN BE EVERYWHERE AND OH GOD IT IS SO FUN". is this definition of fun gameplay loop for you? Then you should go back to drawing board, because "press spacebar everywhere" became old and outdated in the same game that pioneered it back then in '95.

There is a lot of things I didnt like about Haydee 1 and its premise but all of this was forgiven and tolerated because it had a mighty fun gameplay loop - it was an exceptionally fun puzzle-exploration-adventure. H2 does not have anything of such value and it all comes crashing down pretty quick - in the end it just a room-navigating sim with overly-sexualized characters.

The fact that there aren't actually any sort of memory puzzles is a huge letdown in addition to there being no platforming, aye.

I actually still like this game a lot. I think they nailed the aesthetic, the animations and music. The little notes do a good job of fleshing out the setting. The enemy design is cool, and makes the place look less desolate. I'll miss the ledge shimming, and how falling 5 feet hurt you. I think that added a lot to who you are and what you're doing. But, I don't think of it as a downgrade. I think the devs want to try a slightly different formula, and I totally support it.

agree and disagree at the same time. Honestly this game feels like a half life game in 3D models. What i don't really like is all the enclosed rooms + all the items. It looks nice like a tech / mechanical shop but makes it harder to find stuff.

I had a very similar criticism to the game, any idea why it was locked? Kinda tilted me ngl. Spent a long time writing it. Your criticism is a lot more poignant and cohesive though, I'm glad I'm not alone. Why is NO ONE talking about how jarring all the porn splattered everywhere is? Legit like a horny mod for the game. You get sick of it real fast. But this is a very spot on post, you should repost it as a review.

Haha, the devs just lumped thread with criticism about their bad gameplay and overall game design approach into the same "troll forum section" (as they call it) where they move trash threads complaining about their character design.

Shows how insecure and sensitive they are. If you dont want to hear such criticism then do your job better instead of clone-stamping same or worse asset-packs every 2 years.

As I said in the repost someone made of my critique, if your game can get ripped apart like this and you have to censor the criticism? Then your game is just garbage. Honestly depressing. I loved the original game and loved the dev(s?) for managing to create something unique, an actually engaging puzzle game that went above and beyond just making a titty character for attention. Surprisingly good after it hooks you in with the character design, wasn't just a cash grab asset flip as you said. But this one, and the dev response to backlash is honestly soul crushing to see. I guess you get a little success, money and attention and it gives you a massive ego. Game devs have a tendency to become ego driven jerks, especially in the indie scene when they're given a bone and their game becomes successful after being made on a low budget. So sad

and mega depressing to see that the low effort garbage porn mods horny 13 year olds made for the first game actually influenced the level design. Now you can go back and play through those and get the real Haydee 2 experience without having to spend 25 dollars

Tbf they did do SOME good things and improved upon but overal removing the jump function and removing the helmet from Haydee was an absolutely terrible move. Hope the helmet comes back or jump as well.

There's just not much interesting here, and considering other games do this stuff much better, coupled with the devs acting like kids, I'm just not willing to give them my $25 for this.

This is more of a story/survival focused game, as opposed to a puzzle platformer. Not really worse, just different.

I remember OG Haydee someone said it had what was lost in modern games. Haydee 2 feels like a run of the mill modern game now. It is missing that unique platform and hard puzzle aspects.

Unfortunately, I have to agree with almost everything said in the original post. The Tomb Raider'esque platforming was a big part of the original and had a lot of retro charm. It had some control issues, but should have been improved, not removed. Same thing with the puzzles.

I'm not bothered about the character change, as that can and will be immediately modded, but losing platforming as a feature is not something which can be solved by mods, even if the feature is available in the engine (why would you implement platforming and then build the entire game without it, though?). There is zero chance of some modders creating an entire campaign of the same length, polish and character of the original game. Not only because it would be a daunting task, but because for any game, modders are players first. It should be obvious that the players who like Haydee 2 are the ones who disliked platforming in the original or at least think removing it is for the better. Those players are not going to build platforming levels in Haydee 2.

I was really looking forward to this release and even had plans to create a number of mods. I've barely played an hour of this game and I'm already bored, with little interest in continuing. At the moment I'm just considering a refund.

This may be one of the biggest disappointments I've had in gaming.
