Imaging trying to Identify a damaged frigate in a fleet of 20 frigates. I keep telling them to turn the damaged ship icons red, They just refuse to do it. Where's our 'Refit all' button? "Oh, you wanna refit 70 ships? LOL at you buddy."
I think they'll figure out something for better fleet management.
The bigger games get very tedious after a while, I mean you should 100% be able to tell a whole fleet to retrofoit to the superior design either by going to the closest shipyard or whatever other location.
You should 100% not go through each of your hundreds of ships to do this and then have to make them 1 by ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ 1 go back to the fleet.
I mean that's just complete insanity when you have hundreds of ships xD
You should 100% be able to make a fleet template and then order the fleet somewhere and it's automatically queued in surrounding shipyards and then formed at the waypoint you want it.
I mean it's not fun to build ships one by one and make them go to rally point (which at least is automatic) to then have to select the right ship to move it to the right fleet they need to go etc...
That's maybe fun when you have 10 fleets, it get's extremelly tedious and at the end you just randomly assemble ships into the first fleet that has unused logistic points without giving a F... about what type of ship it is and you end up fighting wars like soviets by just throwing in numbers.
So yeah please, change this as soon as possible xD
The problem: I have a fleet with 2 destroyers, 6 frigates, 10 fighters. It sustained some casualties after a battle. How do I replace casualties?
Current situation:
1) I click on a fleet, hover above each ship to understand which models are missing
2) I need to go to shipyards and queue builds.
2.1) Oh i forgot which fighter model is missing cuz i didn’t write it down. Go back to the fleet to double check.
3) Then I need to move all newly built ships to the fleet. Meanwhile fleet is moving around.
The result: there are a lot of clicks and no real decisions in the process. Some “other” games solve this by fleet templates, but maybe there is a more elegant solution idk.
I would be curious how other people think it could be solved.
I really struggle with Fleet Management mid to late game too, just the management of so many fronts and fleets starts to take a tool.
I usually only have 2-3 types of fleets.
Special, command and survey ships are the ones I handle with any particular care.
no thats not weird. its just the way the game is designed. (over complex but not very well) ships are not worth much, because the combat system is so wonky. if it had the combat system of GC3 (rock paper scissors) it would be much more important to keep the ships updated to different races you meet, but not in GC4 where it is not necessary to have different combat ship types, just one or two. just take your best weapons into the ship and go to the front. when its destroyed build the ship with the newer weapons.
GC3 ships are less useful when you have the wrong type verses what your enemy has. Your older ships still are made obsolete in time. It's true in the current build beams are just generally stronger than the other weapon types but there is consideration on when to use those other weapons.
The GC4 ships last a lot longer than their GC3 counterparts in terms of viability.
