For instance on one of the beach maps I walked all the way to a capture point without being shot at once.
Yep, that was updates did that. Those maps can very hard at times, which is the way it should be landing on beach heads.
However, they listened to the voiceful minority claiming the maps were too difficult and nerfed it.
You prefer getting gunned down over and over before you have the chance to throw smoke grenades (because your allies sometimes won't) or do anything at all? Why would they even make a "no deaths" achievement at that point? It's a game, not a "D-DAY: VR" experience.
I'd at least prefer the option to jump off the side of the craft so my squad and I can take cover against it, but if I can't get that then I'd prefer a nerf because being forced to run straight out of the craft into overwhelming machine gun fire that you can't do anything about is stupid.
I thought the game was fine. I mean, you can play COD WW2 for crying out loud landing on Normandy Beach against bots on that game, and you're gonna get mowed down plenty of times, until you can find a way up the beach to use those bangalors to break thru.
Running up a beach in the face of MG42 gunfire is gonna be tough. And so the answer is yes, it was better the old way at least for me.
And keep in mind they nerfed Normandy even before the AI rework. I'm playing an old version before the AI update, and Normandy is pretty easy.
So that nerfing happened a long time ago, but i liked it prior.
The COD WW2 mission is scripted so that you don't die when exiting the landing craft, and there's far more cover on the beach to hide behind so you can, you know, play the game. I don't mind tough, but I despise repeatedly forced death that you have to wait for your allied bots to stop.
I Keep it sorta trim @ 45 vs 45+ but rarely more than 50 vs 50+ (feels more like a battle than a clusterf*ck) and it either makes maps impossible (Sword and Carentan!!!) or the fight of my life. Hell, sometimes just getting to the next *phase* can feel like an accomplishment.
alot of other things you can do but i suggest looking into using the editor where such issues wont exist as you dictate everything.
I'm thinking about taking that script (which is not originally mine) and making it so it can work across phases
