-pausewhenempty 1
You can change it in the settings file, located at the same place as the save files. You have to restart the server if you do this.
In the console window you run the server, you can run the command "pausewhenempty 1".
Or, you can give yourself admin powers in the console window to change it in game with the command I said earlier. To do this, run command "permissions set <yourname> admin".
start jre\bin\javaw.exe -jar Server.jar -pausewhenempty 1 seems to do the trick - although the clock ticks for a little while (about 10 whatever the things before the day are?) before stopping - thanks!
It's up to you, but the easiest way as mentioned in the post is by hosting through the in-game menu and then inviting friends.
