It is completely fine, slow and very telegraphed, skill issue.
Bragging about being a wow player isn't the flex you think it is in fact it tells us everything we need to know about your gaming skills
Impressive - a full psychological profile based on one comment. Got anything to say about the actual mechanic, or just diagnoses?
You could always turn on God mode during the boss fight, then you should be able to tank at least a wave or two (depending on the damage reduction setting).
If you use Divine Dash, you can reliably dodge through it.
If you use Selene's Dark Side hex, you can activate it and turn invincible if you're worried about dodging through fire waves.
It used to be far worse, the fire waves were a true one shot kill. They're less damaging than before, he's been nerfed a lot, so if people feel a certain way, it's because this boss has been largely de-fanged.
The only mod is to get a better memory.
I'm still not 100% clear on what constitutes burning damage when applied by enemies. (Or is it only terrain based fire effects?)
If you cant remember 5 positions for 5 seconds after you were told them, that's on you.
You just have to concentrate when the sequence begins, and learn the memorization procedure, which as I have found is actually quite diverse. This actually means there are many different ways that people can use to make it work, whether it's memorizing the safe zones as numbers or as directions.
In conclusion, OP, you should look toward Melinoe's example rather than throwing up your hands and giving up at the first opportunity.
For the patterns, in addition to the 1-2-3 strat linked in the first reply, I will add this: you can pause after every telegraph. If you need more time, pause each time and speak them aloud, or write them down and memorize them after the 3rd/5th telegraph. In time, with repetition, dodging them will become second nature (just as learning mechanics in WoW or any other MMO work the same way).
You will also start to get more comfortable with the timing of the attacks themselves; as others noted, a well-timed dodge will completely negate the attack if you're standing in the wrong spot, so getting in the habit of doing a "just in case" dodge in the zone you think is safe also won't hurt, provided of course that you're not dodging INTO a bad spot from a safe one.
Keep at it, this attack will start to feel like child's play after a little while.
