Anyway, I think a toggle for dirtiness is totally make sense. It's even less useful than hunger and thirst which we can toggle.
For me, I play Valley map only. I don't really mind. I carry a wash tub and a bucket of water so I can wash if I need to to talk to some one. Try not to run through the bushes too often. My house is next to the main river. I can jump in before talking to wife.
At the very least they need to give some sort of option to wash in any drinkable water source, and not just at player owned wash basins. There are so many streams and ponds that don't have the depth to get you even half clean.
I don't mind getting dirty once in a while, especially when doing farmwork, with firtilizing and whatnot, but as it is now, its way WAY too often.
A day in MD might equal a month in real time, but to me a day is a day. I can't play pretend and think its anything else than one day.
When you're in the water, keep an eye on your dirt indicator in your inventory, where you'll see the actual percentage. The dirt indicator in the UI only activates once you reach a certain level of dirtiness (please don't ask me what percentage).
In any case, if the water isn't deep enough and/or you don't stay in long enough, only the worst dirt will disappear, but you won't be clean - which is why it doesn't last long.
Give it a try and see if it improves the situation for you.
(In the late game and with three days per season, I usually don't wash at all anymore.
At a certain point, there is very litte I need to do in my villages. it practically runs itself. I do fieldwork and repairs, and whatever little managing needed. The rest of the time I need to be out there, and actively do things. I just find hanging around in my village to be boring, to be honest.
There is a toggle or slider for practically everything else.
