Near her, there are sometimes items you can pick up, like a book. You will then die and be teleported to a boss.
It's normal souls formula - start as a complete nothing, finish as an op pro. You'll get there, we all did. Also there are maps for Fallgrim, Google them. And countless videos giving you the very basics, like upgrades, weapons, shells and stuff.
-if you check the corpses/ghosts in the tower you'll get a clue of where to get additional shells (with different stats and skills). Its the same with weapons, in the fallgrim tower (its like the nexus for the whole game btw) you can also check weapon stands and you also get like a "flashback/clue" to where to go
-have an eye all the time to the "hardened mode" and the stamina more than your hp. Its better to go slowly doing one or two hits and then stay away while your hardened mode and stamina recovers
-i'd say dont be afraid to try any item you find but you can also check on wiki or something what items do
-tar is like souls and you can lose them by dying. check on the shop on top of the tower (theres a fat guy and a cat, fat guy sells 2 items that increase your weapons damage)
game is designed more or less like DS1, there's like 4-5 areas where you need to go, kill the boss and return, after that theres a final boss and youre done
honestly the game is fairly punishing in the first 1-2hrs if you havent played it as while it has some souls like elements its also kinda weird.
It doesnt play like Dark Souls, doesnt handle loot like Dark Souls, and character growth isnt like Dark Souls. If you know about Solomon and the Martyrs Blade you can become very strong very quickly but otherwise youre going to struggle bus and its one of the games weaknesses.
Dark Souls isnt about bullying the player but encouraging you to think before you act. This game doesnt do that as well but once you get the hang of its quirks it becomes maybe a bit too easy.
For me, getting Tiel made the game's difficulty dropped dramatically because of how much favors an aggressive playstyle
