Why is this game so needlessly hard in the first hour?
Yeah yeah, "git gud". Get a job.

But really. I don't know where I'm going. I don't who anyone is. Is this weird wolverine troll supposed to be so mind numbing?
Why the glimpses to get an upgrade? Wtf are glimpses?
What's the best way to commit seppuku?

True, game gets much easier once you unlock additional skills. Strong enemies will suddenly become easy. Check out the maps in the Steam guides. Helps alot. Glimpses will allow you to unlock skills by talking to Sester Genessa.

Near her, there are sometimes items you can pick up, like a book. You will then die and be teleported to a boss.
I got gut and I don't have a job :steamhappy:
It's normal souls formula - start as a complete nothing, finish as an op pro. You'll get there, we all did. Also there are maps for Fallgrim, Google them. And countless videos giving you the very basics, like upgrades, weapons, shells and stuff.

best advices i can think of:

-if you check the corpses/ghosts in the tower you'll get a clue of where to get additional shells (with different stats and skills). Its the same with weapons, in the fallgrim tower (its like the nexus for the whole game btw) you can also check weapon stands and you also get like a "flashback/clue" to where to go
-have an eye all the time to the "hardened mode" and the stamina more than your hp. Its better to go slowly doing one or two hits and then stay away while your hardened mode and stamina recovers
-i'd say dont be afraid to try any item you find but you can also check on wiki or something what items do
-tar is like souls and you can lose them by dying. check on the shop on top of the tower (theres a fat guy and a cat, fat guy sells 2 items that increase your weapons damage)

game is designed more or less like DS1, there's like 4-5 areas where you need to go, kill the boss and return, after that theres a final boss and youre done

I think its just flat our bad.. The enemies track your dodges, and theyre too aggressive for a long cooldown Harden ability, and hit tracking the little dodge move. I dont need an hour to know a bad game when I see it.

having to google basic stuff in a game is not a positive. It was created to fix a problem with lack of information within the game

honestly the game is fairly punishing in the first 1-2hrs if you havent played it as while it has some souls like elements its also kinda weird.

It doesnt play like Dark Souls, doesnt handle loot like Dark Souls, and character growth isnt like Dark Souls. If you know about Solomon and the Martyrs Blade you can become very strong very quickly but otherwise youre going to struggle bus and its one of the games weaknesses.

Dark Souls isnt about bullying the player but encouraging you to think before you act. This game doesnt do that as well but once you get the hang of its quirks it becomes maybe a bit too easy.

I think the Dark Souls comparison is the easiest to make since it was the most accessible to players and it pioneered the genre. (Which this does take great inspiration from i.e. Text boxes, stamina management, learning attack patterns, etc etc) but the issue if you treat it like Dark Souls, you're going find yourself punished again and again. If you, a player, treat the game like Bloodborne instead, you'll find the game to be much more rewarding.

For me, getting Tiel made the game's difficulty dropped dramatically because of how much favors an aggressive playstyle
