I don't understand the fish weight to friction/power ratio. I get spooled easy.
Can someone help me understand one thing. Why do I have trouble pulling in a 5 kg pike on a reel that has 7kg friction and 10kg power? I get spooled out and need to chase them down with the boat every time the pike is around 5kg or more. Is there like a rule of thumb for fish-weight to friction/power ratio? Or am I just using too cheap gear and it will improve later on? I'm level 16 now with limited money and gear access. So I don't have the finances to experiment and hope for the best. I need to know the formula.

Thanks a lot.

Check your reel brake, and see if it is too low... Also, what kind of line/leader do you use?
Credinus 10 月 22 日 下午 9:05
Upping your friction brake will help, but with pike and salmon especially, some fish offer a lot more "fight" than their raw weight. In the simplest way to look at it, friction power is the stopping power of the reel, IE how much force it can apply to keep a fish from pulling line; power is how much reeling power the reel has (important for heavy deadweight fish like catfish). In the case of a strong fighter fish like pike, even though their weight may be 5 KG, they swim harder so they're exerting a lot of extra force; a 5 KG pike can be like a 10-12 KG fish because of the fight they put up.

If you don't already, I recommend changing the setting in the options menu to show the separate bars for tension. The default combined bar doesn't really give a good indication of what is being stressed during a fight. In the separate view, you get three bars, from top to bottom: line/leader, pole, reel. This is a lot more useful in identifying which part of your tackle is struggling the most. Often it will be the line and leader except when you've got a fish on that is really testing the limits of your setup.

There are also other types of reel you'll find later on that are more complicated with things like multiplier strength and whatnot, but you really won't need to start worrying about those for another 10 levels or so.

Oh, and side note, you should try and get yourself a decent feeder setup if you don't already have one ASAP. The atom event will be starting up soon, and you'll have the opportunity to earn a LOT of silver during that event by bottom fishing at the event map and doing the turn-ins there. Like, 25k+ silver a day type of money, so you'll be able to really kit yourself up for the coming levels. While you should focus on the type of fishing you enjoy doing most, I recommend having the baseline fly rod and reel, 2 20kgish feeder setups, and a 20 kgish casting setup if you can put it all together with the event's help. That will honestly get you some great fish for a while; I'm level 27 currently and I've only recently started putting together setups for larger amounts that that (primarily for big salmon and in preparation for the event to catch some of the big ol' fish there).

Wow man you are a life saver! Thanks a lot for the detailed explanation. I was kinda expecting this cause it makes sense, but didn't know how to make sure.

I'm already running with the separate bars for tension setting as I am used to that from Fishing Planet.

And thanks for the heads up on the Atom Event. Will try and get started on feeder fishing. I know Mdawg is a good source for information on this on Youtube since all he does is bottom fishing.

Cheers and thanks a lot!

Thanks Davser. I think I have a good handle on the break. I adjust it often to match the fish I have on.
A funny thing happened today though. I found out that I didn't have to settle for just having a 100m line, but could actually put 500m line on my reel... Lol! And for some weird reason it makes it easer to reel in heavier fish!? Its not just a matter of having more line than they can pull out, but the fight with a 5kg pike actually seems easier?? I don't know if this is a thing or not. But it sure feels like less of a struggle now for some weird reason.

When you say a decent feeder setup, what are we talking? I only have around 2500 silver since I just spent 5000 silver on the best spinner setup I could manage. I could probably make another 5000 in a couple of days or so. And would It be better to go for a more expensive two-rod setup or a cheaper 3 rod setup since I'm running out time?

Cheers

I would start with a cheaper 3-rod setup so you have plenty of bite rate. After the first few turn-ins, I would then upgrade one of the feeders to the (using lbs because I switched that option on right away, more familiar with imperial) 39 lb feeder rods that's about 2k silver and a salamo fx reel that's 39 lb friction and I think 35 lb power, about 10k silver. That'll be your lunker setup there, and then I'd save money up from there. I think there's a raiwa reel that's like 26 or 29 lbs and is pretty cheap and that'll get you plenty of decent fish for the event.

Also, save up fish pieces for it, those are a very, very good bait there. And if you have a casting setup that can handle a .99 oz lure, one of those vertical pilking lures actually works very well out there. I'll be spending most of my time during the event either triple feeder fishing from the island on the map, or two feeder + pilking out in the deep water.

Alllrighty. I will get on this asap. Will learn from Mdawg's videos as much as I can on feeder fishing cause I'm mainly a spinner guy. But I see he has a lot of success with bottom fishing. Looking forward to pilking. I like that type of fishing a lot.
The Atom Event is around the 28th this month right?

Cheers and thanks again.

I presume so! I haven't seen an official announcement on the date beyond just near the end of the month, so I'm expecting it to start either this weekend or some time next week.

In addition to MDawg, Silent Angler has a lot of good tutorial videos that go over a lot of the less intuitive aspects of the game, great resource there. The best advice I can give on feeder fishing for now is to not get too caught up in making custom groundbaits. Until you start really trying to target specific fish and/or carp fishing, the universal "lucky" feed that's like 10 silver is just fine. As far as some good spots for money, not sure what level you're at or if you've got any of the DLCs, but here's a few good ways early on:

Level 5 map (r. San) - Fly fish with the RF wasp during the day and grasshopper fly at night; the fish themselves aren't worth a ton, but they give a lot of XP and are often sized just right to make into fish pieces.

Level 8 map (r. Pra) - On the bend at the far north of the map, you can very reliably catch pike/asp/chub spin fishing and put a couple feeders out there with size 16-18 hooks using bloodworm to catch lots of ide and zope. Pretty solid money here.

DLC map Siberia: Enisey - Feeder fishing with size 8 hooks on mayfly larva out in the deep parts will get you a lot of whitefish both day and night, and you can also use the pilking lure for some whitefish and even small salmon during the day. This is probably the most reliable source of silver early on if you have the DLC.

One thing you'll unlock pretty easily if you participate in the event is the packaging table. Once you have that, you'll want to adjust to a rule of cutting up any fish worth less than 20 silver into fish pieces/offals if they are the right size to do so, as you'll be able to bundle those up and sell them for more than the price of the fish by itself.

Glad I could help, and tight lines out there!

[edit] Another pro tip that isn't explained and I think a lot of people don't know is that you can sell your non-personal rods and reels back to the shop for about 75%ish of the original price, which helps a lot when upgrading setups. To do this, you need to be standing close to a shop, then you can right-click on item in the inventory screen (reels will be in the tackle section, rods in the rods section; note that for rods, you need to unequip everything on the rod first, and reels need to be unequipped from a rod to show up in tackle) and a sell button will be listed there.

Thanks a lot man. You are giving me a lot of valuable info here.
I did just buy the Siberia dlc and already made some good silver there. I have a lot to work on now.
Thanks a gain and cheers :)
Dorjef 10 月 25 日 下午 7:42
Hey, I just bought the USA and Siberia dlc. I also bought the spinning set JerkPredator from the real money shop. It has a nice 32kg rod and a 31kg reel. I catch 15kg fish quite easy with this set.
Could you recommend me some good spots for money farming with spinning, so I can buy better feeder gear? I am lvl 20 now.
Cheers.
Credinus 10 月 25 日 下午 8:32
I haven't explored the USA map much yet. In Siberia, you can use a pilking lure (I think you can pick them up in the USA map, it's got most of the spin lures) in the deep sections for whitefish, muksun, and the occasional white salmon. The shallow part southeast of the spawn is a decent spot for spin and fly fishing as well, and a great spot for Siberian dace whenever the daily or income quests for them are available. The spot I mentioned on r. Pra will be great for that spin setup as well, you'll have no trouble bringing in the larger pike and asp there.

In theory, the Dnepr Delta should be great for spinning, but it's another map I haven't spent enough time at to feel out. Levels 24, 26, and 28 have been real bangers though; I'm absolutely loving the three maps unlocked there, and for 26 and 28 specifically, you can have a lot of success trolling with topwater lures.

And speaking of topwater lures, those and spoons will probably be your best non-pilking options in the Enisey DLC map. The golden spoon will do pretty well at catching whitefish, and the topwaters will hit pike, and even the occasional taimen or salmon. I know the USA map has spinner bait jigs that are good for bass and gar, I just don't know where; I've mostly gone there for shiners. One of the great things about Fisher Online; most of the maps just have so much to offer that it's hard to find time to dig into all of them!

A side note, whenever you're catching any salmon species (and that includes several of the trout), before selling them or using them for quests, always check the cutting options. Rarely, you'll be able to harvest them for roe, which you almost always want to do; exception would be like a 200 silver+ taimen, but roe is an extremely good bait and you get 30 of it from the harvest. To my knowledge, that's the only way to get roe other than buying it off the auction house, and it tends to go for around 16 per there. Also, since you're level 20, I'd almost always cut salmon species into the expensive fillet option if it is available for its size. Those sell really well on the auction house, usually about 60-70 per fillet and you get 2 fillets for any fish you use that on. For your first big feeder setup, I would aim for a kitana deepstream 18 rod and a salamo sfox-1 reel, which together will run around 12-13k silver and that combo still makes up 2 of my 3 feeder setups. The Salamo reel is also a great swap-in for trolling. My current trolling setup is the rod and reel from the Oktoberfest event, a kitana x-spin 20 with a marinex sw 4500 reel (you can purchase those in Italy at level 22), and a kitana x-spin 18 with the salamo.

Overall, I think your best silver-focused spot would be the Enisey map. Work towards getting two of those Deepstream 18 rods (1135 silver each), and you can throw a couple of those STK Jackfish 8 starter reels (565 silver each) to use on them for now. Some of the larger lake whitefish will be a challenge to bring in, but they'll get the job done. Take the 3-rod boat and park it out in the deep section a little northwest of where the two rivers merge, throw the feeders out with size 8 hooks and mayfly larva, and use the pilking lure or the gold spoon with your spin setup. It's not the most glamorous or exciting spot, but it's very reliable and active both day and night without having to change baits or anything, and it'll get you there. The XP is decent as well.

Hey. Could you please give me a couple of pointers on the most effective way to go about in the Atom event?I have been fishing a bit there and made 60 badges from one daily. But now I don't know the best course of action to take.
-Are there other ways to make those atom badges? Making those packages of fish meat seem like a slow process.
-How do I make actual money cause the fish I catch aren't worth that much?
-What is the Atomic Raid? Is it just completing those 6 tasks listed or is it something else? There is a button called the Atomic Raid that doesn't do anything.
-How do you get a weapon to fight the zombies? And are they even worth fighting? Do they drop stuff?

Cheers and thanks a lot for your help.

Sorry for the late reply, I hope you've been getting some luck in the event? If you haven't already gotten the answers to your questions, here's a rundown for the event:

1) The atom badges will come from three primary sources: the overall event progress quests (you can view those by clicking on the gift box icon at the top right of the screen, and you can click on the rewards for any quests there you have completed to collect them; the overall one that that is 70 badges can be collected after all other quests are done), crafting mut-meat cargo in the vending machine and selling it to the NPC next to it in the market tab (can do this 10x per day), and occasionally from zombie loot
2) Yes, the raid is just an overall event quest progress; one-time completion for each quest and the overall event
3) You just need to have your hands empty, and then you can left-click to attack the zombies when you're close to them. They're definitely worth fighting when you come across them; sometimes they'll give worthless loot, but they can also reward VIP tickets, money cards, repair kits, and atomic badges

You can also buy a pack of each bait in the event merchant (cockroaches, woodlice, and snails) 3x per day. I recommend buying at least the woodlice to max every day. You can setup a trio of feeders/floats on the island on the map at night and use size 8-16 hooks with woodlice on them to get a lot of black perch and dragon. These will help fill out those "catch x mutants" quests in the overall event progress, and the dragons are worth a LOT of xp for how quick they are to bring in and how high their bite rate is. If you get your hands on a strong spinning setup, you can pilk the claw event jig or the slaughterer lure out in the deep holes during the day to catch big fish that will give you a lot of mut meat.

There was also a 500 badge compensation sent out to players yesterday due to the initial bugs the first couple days of the event. If you can get enough badges along with that to get the tent from the event merchant, I recommend that as your priority goal with the badges. That tent has infinite uses, and it allows you to setup a fast travel point wherever you need on a map on top of having the crafting/cutting tables normally only available on the Pra map or the angler house. The normal method of getting the reusable tent is VERY grindy, so getting that atomic tent will save you a ton of time and effort.
