Well I remember going through the original EA with limited French voices and it wasn't bad. Native language of the devs n all.
However, I've been enjoying my replay using the lovely English VA option. It might feel a little stilted with some of the line deliveries, but it is far, FAR, FAR better than some games.

I suppose that's what it comes down to: Do ya wanna listen or read? Subs or dubs?

IMHO, the French voices are cuter overall. But the English VAs did really great work, too. The range in quality is all over the place, and certain characters are really bringing *too* much passion to their delivery (looking at you, green apple Dracula.) Lots of ad-libbing and going off-script to the subtitles, too. If that's something that irks you, maybe try going French first.

The cool thing is that you can swap in and out, so there's no need to commit to one decision.

Oooh, thanks for calling out the ability to easily switch. I just kind of figured you could only do it from the main menu or with a restart but I realized it's super easy to pop into the menu at any time and swap the language. I did notice the English voices not always matching the subtitles but I'm definitely the type that doesn't lose his mind when localizers and VAs take risks/liberties because it makes the experience that much more unique. Not that bad choices can't be made, but I'd rather they try then robotically follow a literal translation....I don't have a lot of friends in the anime dub community...lol.

I haven't gotten to green apple Dracula yet, but now I'll have to go out of my way to hear him in English and French to compare.

I only played the first chapter in French before the game released from early access. I found Ragg and Emily to have much prettier voices in French. Which is not to say the English version is bad, not by any means. It's just little subtleties in performance. I quite like Julie's voice, for example. Which is good, since you're going to be hearing her a lot.
